Hockey Canada changes to the Coaching Certification Program

Hockey Canada's changes to the coaching certification program are a result of the Coaching Association of Canada and Hockey Canada working to ensure standardization of approach and content across the country while applying current teaching methods for adult learners, including online learning.Key changes that will be MANDATORY effective September 2013.
The ODHA will no longer have "graduated" certification (in which a coach must first take coach stream then Dev. 1, etc.) A coach will enter the certification program at the age or level he/she is coaching. For instance, a new coach assisting with a competitive Pee Wee A team would only need to take Dev. 1.
Coach Stream will have changes as well. Coach Stream E-Learning: A Coach registers online at odha.com for the e-learning course. It has 12 modules and, if done at once, would take about 4 hours. Coaches can stop and go at their leisure, doing it over whatever period of time suits them. THEN Coaches are able to register for the in-class portion. Since this is all done through the HCR, a Coach will NOT be able to register for, or attend the in-class portion until the e-learning component is completed.
What Clinics do I need to take?
Coach Stream: For all House League Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches. For all Novice and Atom Competitive Level Head and Assistant Coaches.
Development 1: For all Competitive teams (B, A, AA) Head and Assistant Coaches of Minor Pee Wee and older.
Starting in the 2014/2015 Season:
High Performance 1: For all AAA Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches and those interested in provincial/national programs.
