The Kings Annual General Meeting will be held on May 12, 2010.  Location to be determined.

Experienced certified coaches are encouraged to apply for Head Coach positions with the RSL Kings for next season.

The RSL Kings plan to offer the following levels in the 2010-2011 season Minor Atom A, Major Atom AA, Minor Peewee A and AA, Major Peewee A and AA, Minor Bantam AA, Major Bantam AA, Minor Midget AA and possibly Major Midget AA. All levels depend on the selection of a qualified coach and sufficient players to have a competitive tryout process. It is the Kings policy to offer the highest level team first. For example, if there are only 25 kids trying out for Minor Peewee - only the AA team will run.

The Kings offer the best competitive hockey as our focus is on player development, through quality coaching. Please email Dave Van Stralen with your intent to apply and forward your application to me (preferably by email) prior to March 26, 2010.

Interviews with the selection committee will be held late March - early April.

The RSL Kings will be hosting a golf tournament at the Prescott Golf Club, on Friday, August 27, 2010.  There will be a shotgun start at 12:30, scramble format.  Watch here for details!  Anyone wishing to volunteer with the golf tournament, please contract Brenda Green.

The AAA Committee, under direction from the ODMHA Zoning and Constitutions Committee, will begin work immediately to draft the necessary amendments to ODMHA governing documents. This will install AAA as an ongoing part of the ODMHA's hockey programs.

Carkner Visits Major Atom A Kings

Former Rideau St. Lawrence King and current Ottawa Senators defenceman Matt Carkner took time out of his busy schedule to visit with the Major Atom A Kings before a recent game in Kanata on January 20th. Carkner, 29, and in his first full season in the NHL is believed to be the first Kings alumi to make an opening day NHL roster. Carkner, from Winchester, shared with the kids some thoughts and memories of his journey from his days as a defenceman with the Rideau St. Lawrence Kings, to time spent with the Junior B Winchester Hawks, Junior A Brockville Braves, Major Junior A Peterborough Petes, being drafted by the Montreal Canadians, being released, and playing in the American Hockey League before final landing a full time spot in Ottawa. Carkner stressed the importance of hard work and never giving up on your goal(s) even when the odds are stacked against you. The kids then had the opportunity to ask Carkner questions about life in the NHL before getting autographs and photos taken with the Ottawa Senator defenceman.

Economic impact study of the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship  The Rideau St. Lawrence Kings Association, will be submitting an application to the fund to help support Kings programs.

Cost $20/person.

The RSL Kings fees for the 2009 - 2010 season are:

• Player Registration fee is $1,050.00 (sponsorships can offset this fee)
• $500.00 per player for fundraising (money raffle - various draw dates throughout the season)

Player Benefits:

• $2000 towards tournament entry fees for each team
• 14 home games per team
• Approximate average of 1.5 practice sessions of (1.5 – 2 hr per session) per week (25 weeks from mid Sept through mid March)
• 2 pair of hockey socks
• Player Development:
  • 4 x 1 hour power skating sessions per team
  • 4 x 1 hour goalie development sessions per team
  • 4 x 40 minute off ice strength and conditioning sessions per team
  • 1 x 40 minute video training session per team followed by a 1 hour on-ice instruction session per team
• Year end banquet (players and coaches are free)
• 5 year ring (for participating in the Kings program for 5 years)
  

Dressing Room & Helmet Policy

The RSL Kings will not be offering a team at the Minor Peewee A level for the 2009 - 2010 season.

A Teams - The Rideau St. Lawrence Kings will be running Major Atom A and Major Peewee A programs next season.   Coach selection is proceeding during late June.  We are investigating if a Minor Peewee A team is viable and will make a decision  by late July.   If you are interested in Minor Peewee A, please register for tryouts to help support our efforts to offer this level of hockey.

RLS Kings 2009-2010 Tryout forms are now available.

Conditioning Camp - Atom, Peewee, Bantam and Midget - will be held August 21 - 30, 2009.

The CJHL Entry Draft was held in Kemptville on May 30, 2009.  The following Kings players were selected:

• Brett Costello - 1st round, 12th overall to Nepean
• Cory Wilson - 81st overall to Brockville
• Lee Charlebois - 104th overall to Smith Falls
• Tanner Williams - 96th overall to Nepean
