We have committed to following the mandate of player development which I stated in June. To that end, The Rideau St. Lawrence Kings will provide the following programs for the 2009/2010 season:
Player Development:
1. 4 x 1 hour power skating sessions per team
2. 4 x 1 hour goalie development sessions per team
3. 4 x 40 minute off ice strength and conditioning sessions per team
4. 1 x 40 minute video training session per team followed by a 1 hour on-ice instruction session per team
This player development program is run independent of each team’s regular schedule and is a mandatory part of the Rideau St. Lawrence Kings hockey program. On Ice instructors are Lisa Leeder and Dan Armstrong.
Further, and included in our development budget, Mike Horan will be providing Coach Mentoring to all of our coaches. Coach selection is the most important role of our organization as these are the people who teach our children not only hockey skills, but also life skills.
Mike’s role as our Director of Player and Coach Development, is to organize and implement a player development program and help our coaches with hockey related development.
Mike will be observing 2 games per team during the season, and meeting with the coach to discuss the game, offer advice and help design a plan to work on areas of improvement. This program is designed to help continue to develop our coaches so that the on-ice and in-game instruction we can provide continues to improve.
Additional Programs:
Conditioning Camp
-
Tryouts
-
8 teams – Maj Atom and Maj Peewee A, Maj Atom thru Min Midget AA
-
$2000 towards tournament entry fees for each team
-
14 home games per team
-
Approximate average of 1.5 practice sessions of (1.5 – 2 hr per session) per week (25 weeks from mid Sept through mid March)
-
2 pair of hockey socks
-
Year end banquet (players and coaches are free)
-
5 year ring (for participating in the Kings program for 5 years)
In order to provide these programs for the 2009/2010 season, we need to raise our registration fees by $100 per player. The reasons, specifically, are:
1. Increased player development
2. Increased Ice Costs
3. Change in policy of some rinks, where we will be unable to turn ice back that we are not able to use.
We will not be offering Major Midget AA and Min Peewee A this season. It is our intention to run Min Peewee A next season (2010/2011), however, Major Midget will be re-evaluated each year.
We as an executive will work hard to operate the Rideau St. Lawrence Kings as cost effective as possible. We do not take lightly the need to raise prices, but we have made this decision with the information we have before us today, and must stay fiscally responsible in providing A and AA hockey to District 1.
I look forward to meeting many of the parents and players in a few weeks at conditioning camp and tryouts,
Sincerely,
Dave van Stralen
